Rogue Valley Farm to School educates children about our food system through hands-on farm and garden programs, and by increasing local foods in school meals. They inspire an appreciation of local agriculture that improves the economy and environment of our community and the health of its members. Their goal is to build a foundation of health for children by creating a love for fresh food and a connection to the natural world, both through healthy school meals and in-school nutrition education, and through partnerships with local farmers so that kids can actually get outside, get their hands dirty, and learn about the food process. Schools in the area provide up to three meals a day for some children from food-insecure families: Rogue Valley Farm to School helps ensure that these meals are healthy and locally-sourced, and that local farmers have a robust market for their products. RWN Foundation’s grant went to general operating so that they could expand their partnerships to additional local schools (they currently work in eight).
