Since 1996, Wallowa Resources (WR) has empowered rural communities to create healthy landscapes and strong economies through land stewardship, education, and job creation. WR provides support and assistance to local initiatives in rural, underserved counties across Eastern Oregon.
As a facilitator and through effective collaboration, WR has stimulated forest restoration on public and private land, improved watershed and rangeland conditions, led widely-recognized youth education and workforce training programs, implemented sustainable technologies, and supported over 50 jobs annually.
WR was created by community members to adapt to profound economic, technical and political changes impacting rural Oregon. Its mandate was to lead the necessary innovation and development to shift rural communities to a “stewardship economy” – sustaining the full spectrum of natural resource values, services, products and jobs by investing in new working land and restoration technologies, education, workforce training, and business opportunities.
